Now Recruiting Learning Leaders for Big Skills (Fall 2026)

The Big Skills Program is officially beginning recruitment for our next cohort of Construction Trainees, starting in August 2026.

Big Skills offers construction skills training through hands-on, real-world learning — building a small house from scratch to completion.

We are looking for highly motivated, reliable high school graduates (18+) with a desire to learn about the building trades. No experience is required. Construction Trainees will join our crews at our build sites in San Rafael and Antioch.

Program details:

• Free tuition
• Participant Support Grants of $10,000
• Runs August 2026 through June 2027
• Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm

Construction Trainees will develop a wide range of construction skills, including:

• Carpentry
• Plumbing
• Electrical
• Cabinetry
• And more

Just as importantly, participants will build leadership, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills through the daily jobsite experience. During a high school class period, Construction Trainees will also serve as mentors, passing on the skills they are developing to a small crew of high school students. This deepens the learning process and strengthens leadership growth.
