RICHMOND, Calif. — Alten Construction, a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, recently celebrated its 30-year anniversary and a long standing legacy of quality construction projects and service to the California community.
Last month, Alten Construction hosted a two-part celebration at the Bill and Adele Jonas Center in Novato to commemorate the occasion. The evening began with a special employee recognition from 4 to 6 p.m. that honored the individuals who have helped shape the company’s success. From 6 to 10 p.m., team members, their families, partners and clients joined together for the second part of the evening, which included cocktails, dinner and entertainment.
“It was important to us that we took time to acknowledge those who have been with us since day one and everyone who believed in our vision from the very beginning,” said Shannon Alten, co-owner of Alten Construction. “The entire evening was a powerful reminder of the relationships we’ve built and the impact we’ve made together over the past 30 years. Hearing from so many people about their love for our company was truly heartwarming and it reaffirmed the difference we’ve made in the lives of those around us.”
The local, family-owned company started in 1995 when Bob and Shannon Alten began Alten Construction with humble beginnings. The commercial construction company won its first bid to renovate 23 bathrooms for Laney and Merritt College in Oakland, California.
Since then, Alten Construction has completed approximately 250 projects for valued clients throughout the Bay area, from Sonoma to San Jose.
Today, the company has annual revenues of more than $160 million and employs approximately 110 people — many who have been with the company for more than 15 years. The Altens take pride in seeing how the company has transformed its employees' lives, both professionally and personally.
“As we celebrate 30 years in business, we remain committed to the same level of excellence that built our reputation,” said Bob Alten, co-owner of Alten Construction. “Our journey has been marked by milestones that shaped who we are today, and we owe our success to the incredible team members, family and partners who have stood with us along the way. This anniversary is not just a reflection of time passed, but a tribute to the dedication, integrity and collaboration that continues to define us.”
Last year, the Altens announced the addition of three new partners to its ownership structure. Bob and Shannon welcomed sons Bobby Alten and Billy Alten to company ownership, as well as longtime employee and chief estimator Erik Andresen.
Both sons have been involved with the company since they were young, taking great pride in the team-oriented culture, customer-focused approach and the opportunity to continue their family’s legacy, and Andresen has been a major contributor to Alten’s success since joining the firm in 1998.
As the preeminent provider of general contracting services in the San Francisco Bay Area, Alten Construction offers a number of general contracting services, including design-build, lease-leaseback, modernization and ground-up construction, among others.
“We’ve grown from a small public works company into a team that proudly serves both public and private clients across the Bay Area,” said Shannon Alten. “We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, and even more excited about what lies ahead.”
Over the years, many of Alten Construction’s projects have been public education buildings, from elementary schools to colleges. Some of the construction firm’s projects include the historic Napa County Courthouse, San Francisco Fire Station No. 5, professional-quality theater at Palo Alto High School, historic Goodman Library, Mission Dolores Park renovation, City of San Rafael Public Safety Center, Menlo-Atherton High School and many others.
Active members of the community, the commercial construction company recognizes the importance in giving back to many organizations, including the Marin Builders Association, Whistlestop, Rebuilding Together Oakland, Redwood High School Construction Technology Program, Chico State University Construction Management, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Construction Management programs and numerous educational facilities.
